keep up with olivia’s latest projects

olivia murphy is a saxophonist and composer based in birmingham, uk.

olivia has always had a passion for composition and during her time at royal birmingham conservatoire she became the first and only two time winner of the coveted rbc jazz composition prize (2018 & 2019).

​olivia is quickly becoming a sought after composer on the uk scene, gaining the national youth jazz orchestra's composer chair in 2020, debuting her first piece for the band "secret colours" at rich mix, london, in march. as well as continuing work with nyjo, olivia is currently writing a set of music for birmingham jazz orchestra (of which she also holds a saxophone chair), and a new suite for her own band, paper shaped people after releasing "afterglow of a dream suite" on iola in april 2020.

 olivia has also recently been commissioned in the neo classical world, writing the suite "eucalyptus trees" for birmingham-based art and music project impasto and writing pieces for new music ensemble orchestra in the shape of a pear.

​after graduating from the jazz course at royal birmingham conservatoire in 2019, olivia has become a regular performer on the birmingham jazz scene, performing a wide range of music from large ensemble jazz with birmingham jazz orchestra and original compositions with her sextet and free jazz with her duo with steve tromans to brass disco with break out brass band.
